How to configure ESET Smart Security to work with (IDM) Internet Download Manager

Firewall configure ESET Smart Security to work with (IDM) Internet Download Manager

When I try to download any file with IDM, it just tries to connect to the Internet and cannot start downloading, or shows some error message "Cannot start a download in IDM. An error occurs on download start" lest show you how to configure Avast Internet Security to work with Internet Download Manager (IDM).

Reason. IDM is not allowed to download or run in Firewall settings. Many FireWalls check the size of application executable file that try to access the Internet. That's because a virus can replace the file with its own, and get access to the Internet. Probably when you updated IDM, its executable file size changed, and your FireWall blocked the Internet access for IDM. If you have a FireWall installed, please check that IDM has appropriate access rights.

Solution. Change incorrect Firewall settings. Please choose instructions for your Internet Security (Firewall) software below:

How to configure ESET Smart Security to work with (IDM) Internet Download Manager

1. Run ESET Smart Security.

2. Select "Setup" in the left column, then press on "Network" link in the right column.

3. In new window, press on "Configure rules and zones…" link on the right part of the window.

4. In new window, double click on IDM icon, then select "Deny communication for IDMan.exe" line below IDM icon. Then press on "Delete (Del)" button below the list.

5. After that, press on "OK" button.

6. Now start a download with IDM. The following window should appear.

It’s necessary to check "Remember action (create rule)" and press on "Allow" button.
If after updating IDM stops downloading, you will need to repeat these actions from the beginning.

If the instructions above do not help, please try to completely uninstall your FireWall TEMPORARILY. Disabling the firewall is not enough, because FireWall keeps blocking access even if you switch it off. After uninstalling and rebooting, check if your problem persists. If it is resolved, then the problem is definitely caused by your FireWall software. You should try to contact its developers, and ask them for a solution, or try another FireWall.
